Den såkaldte GDA-mærkning af fødevarer er blevet et ganske hedt emne på Christiansborg. GDA er industriens eget ernæringsmærke og det kan føles, for det tager mest hensyn til, hvordan forbrugerne kan få det absolut mest positive indtryk af produkterne.
Imidlertid er GDA-mærkningen stærkt vildledende, og fødevareindustrien tyer via mærket til uigennemskuelige portionsstørrelser for at snyde forbrugerne, som man kunne se på DR i går aftes.
Jeg har selv lavet en lille pædagogisk opstilling med en helt almindelig cola – det kan du se på denne videoblog...
Men hvad er GDA-mærkningen da for en størrelse?
GDA tager udgangspunkt i seks næringsstoffer: Energi, fedt, mættet fedt, kulhydrater, med særlig angivelse af sukkerarter og salt. Indholdet angives som en procentdel af et referenceindtag i forhold til en portionsstørrelse – og denne størrelse fastsætter virksomhederne selv. Referencen er en kvinde på 40 år. Ophavsmændene til forslaget er ni internationale virksomheder: Coca Cola, Danone, Kellogg's, Kraft Foods, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Unilever, Masterfoods og Cadbury Schweppes. En lignende GDA-mærkningen har været anvendt i USA i en årrække, uden at det begrænset fedmeudviklingen.
Med andre ord: Selvom amerikanerne elsker GDA-mærkningen, fordi de synes de kan finde ud af den, så må man bare sige, at i praksis er USA den fedeste nation i verden og her synes GDA-mærket ikke at have haft den mindste smule effekt.
GDA-mærket fremmer ganske enkelt industrielt fremstillede fødevare med tomme kalorier (for eksempel sodavand, slik, chips), mens naturlige fødevarer som mælk, frugt og grønt, kød, fisk og fuldkorn med mange vitaminer, mineraler og andre vitale næringsstoffer falder dårligt ud.
Med GDA-mærkning ser en sukkerfri Cola sundere ud end et glas letmælk, og en portion Frosties (morgenmadsprodukt) ser sundere ud end et æble.
Som modargument anføres typisk, at forbrugerne godt ved, hvilke af disse produkter der er sundest, men et ernæringsmærke skal være så klart, at forbrugerne kan skelne sundt fra usundt uden krav om en stor forhåndsviden.
Foreløbig ser det ud til at der kan skabes et flertal udenom regeringen i sagen, så Fødevareudvalget pålægger fødevareministeren at modarbejde at GDA-mærket bliver påkrævet i EU.
